Bosch dryer not spinning

When you find your Bosch dryer not spinning, odds are your clothes are also not drying properly. Along with that, you’re likely wasting energy. There are a few common issues that are usually the culprits behind this problem and there are also a few different things that you can do to try and fix it. We’ll provide some tips on how to fix any issues, and how to keep your Bosch dryer running and spinning smoothly for as long as possible.

Why Is My Bosch Dryer Not Spinning?

When your dryer is out of commission it can put your whole house on pause. No one wants to hang clothes up to dry, especially as it gets into fall and winter. Let’s look into why your Bosch dryer stopped spinning.

Dryer Belt Is Worn Out

The most common reason is that the drive belt has come loose or broken. If the belt is on its way out, it will usually result in a squealing or thumping sound. If the belt is broken then the dryer won’t spin at all. In either case, the dryer belt will need to be replaced, which you’ll need a technician’s help with.

Dryer Not Getting Power

Another possibility is that there is an issue with the power supply to the dryer. Check to make sure that the dryer is plugged in and that the circuit breaker hasn’t gone off.

Next, confirm that you are plugged into the correct outlet, if your dryer is meant for 240v, which almost all electric dryers are, it will need the right cord and the right power source.

Door Switch Malfunction

There is a door switch that is triggered when the dryer is closed that needs to be engaged for the dryer to start. First, make sure the dryer door is closing fully and there is nothing blocking it. If it’s closing just fine and not registering as closed, the switch may be defective.

If this switch is defective and isn’t reading as closed the dryer will not turn on. If that’s the case the dryer switch will likely need to be replaced.

Dryer Settings Issue

When your Bosch dryer won’t spin, there is a chance that the settings aren’t correct. If the control lock is on, then you will be unable to turn the dryer on. This feature is easily activated on accident and will stop the dryer from turning on.

The other possibility is that the timer isn’t set correctly, often a timed start setting can be turned on without you realizing it, which will result in it not starting when you press start. If your dryer isn’t starting at all, you may want to take a look at our dryer not starting guide here!

Damaged Drum Rollers

If you hear a thumping sound coming from your dryer it could be that the drum rollers are damaged and need to be replaced. This can result in the dryer not drying, or in worse cases the Bosch dryer not spinning at all. Over time these rollers can become worn down and no longer provide support to the drum, which will cause it to spin erratically or not at all. You’ll need a technician to replace these for you.
